The Power of Water, Healing Prayer, and Forgiveness

Over the past year, I’ve been reading up again on the work of Dr. Masura Emoto, a Japanese scientist who studied the scientific evidence of how the molecular structure in water transforms when it’s exposed to human words, thoughts, sounds and intentions. His life work is documented in his book, The Hidden Messages in Water.

--- Note: The first part of my article below is taken from another article that describes Dr. Emoto's scientific experiments about water. You can read that full article here. ---

Dr. Emoto demonstrates how water, when exposed to loving, benevolent, and compassionate intention, results in aesthetically pleasing physical molecular formations in the water. When water is exposed to fearful and discordant human intentions, it results in disconnected, disfigured, and “unpleasant” physical molecular formations. He did this through Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology and high speed photographs.

Below are a few water crystal photographs from Dr. Emoto’s work. Each water crystal was exposed to the word it has written next to it.

Dr. Emoto’s research also showed that by exposing polluted and toxic water to prayer and positive intention, the water can be altered and restored to beautifully formed geometric crystals found in clean, healthy water. The following photos below are images of photographs of the water in the Fujiwara Dam before and after the Reverend Kato Hoki, chief priest of Jyuhouin Temple, offered an hour long prayer over it.

Additionally, Dr. Emoto studied how sound affects water. The Emoto music studies demonstrate how certain types of sound, like classical music, generate beautiful crystalline patterns, while heavy metal music, generate distorted crystalline formations. In the images below you see the crystalline formation resulting from water being exposed to Mozart's Symphony NO, 40 and then, in contrast, what the water crystal image looks like after listening to heavy metal music.

If there is one common thread across many spiritual traditions, it’s the importance of the path of forgiveness as a way to experience this deeper Love that we are, in part represented by the geometric shapes in the crystals above. Given that our bodies are made up of at least 60% water (the brain and heart alone are made up of 73% water), how we think, speak, and hold our intentions can have a profound impact on ourselves, our physical environment, and those around us.

During this time of Yom Kippur, The Jewish holiday of Atonement, I’ve been reflecting more on the path and grace of forgiveness. In the Jewish tradition, Yom Kippur, is a time of cleansing in preparation for a new year –– "A year is considered as a cycle of changes we go through. When we decide that we need to change – that our current self-aimed and individualistic approach to life needs shifting to one guided by connection, love, and bestowal – then it is considered as the beginning of the new year: Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of change."

Yom Kippur invites us to forgive and change our current perception and actions, no matter how difficult the experience, so that we can expand into the new.

Without forgiveness –– whether it’s of ourselves, others, groups, or society as a whole –– a part of us will continue to hold onto an inner hurt –– like an anchor that is cast into the water on a ship. If the anchor is not lifted out of the water, the ship doesn’t go anywhere. This is the same for all aspects of our lives. When we don’t forgive, everything in our life can get weighed down, or stuck –– our work, finances, relationships, health, and more. In fact, one of the most powerful ways of enhancing all of those things, including our relationship to Life itself, is through the power of forgiveness and letting go of current judgements and past hurts.

Forgiveness is not an act of condoning one’s actions (ours or others), or a pretending that we’re happy when we’re experiencing anything but that. Instead, it’s an acknowledgement and acceptance of a hurt that exists within us, seeing the truth behind it, and allowing the pain to be released into the Light.

In some traditions, forgiveness is even described as not something we necessarily ‘do’, but it is a phenomenon of grace that transforms us and brings us back into our natural state of wholeness. The part we need to play to receive this grace of inner peace is to become very honest with ourselves, much more than we are often accustomed to. Before we can really experience forgiveness, we have to acknowledge our inner thoughts and stuck emotions, and from there, fully feel the emotions deep within ourselves until they burn to completion. Like the flame on a candle that burns off completely. We do this, while at the same time becoming more detached and neutral to them. When we feel these emotional charges from a higher perspective, then transformation and true forgiveness becomes possible. In a sense, we are ‘transported back’ into our essential state of wholeness again.

This grace of forgiveness is what transforms the molecules in our body back into a sacred geometry. We can see this sacred geometry in the water crystals that Dr. Emoto researched. We are made up of this sacred geometry in our physical and spiritual bodies.

I’ve personally been noticing a growing number of opportunities in the world (and within myself) where forgiveness is needed. No matter what I personally believe about a person, a situation, or a political perspective, I am finding that my judgements of myself and/or others can simply add fuel to the fire and continue the template of division and separation. Conversely, the path of forgiveness, which returns me to the state of Love that I am, can transform what’s around me and within me, simply by being present with what is. All spiritual masters throughout the ages have expressed and demonstrated this to us in their own way. It's possible for everyone, because it's built into who we are.

When we truly forgive at the deepest level, what might become possible in our relationships, our environment, and ourselves? Can our oceans be cleaned, not only by the latest technologies, but by the power of our own heart? How about our land? And even the structures in our world that are currently based in fear? How might these aspects of our society be transformed?

I invite you to listen to the guided forgiveness meditation and let this grace do its healing work for you. Click here to listen.

May we all remember who and what we are in this gift of human life.

Blessings on your journey, Ryan
